From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Microblogging is a broadcast medium in the form of blogging. A microblog differs from a traditional blog in that its content is typically smaller in both actual and aggregate file size. Microblogs “allow users to exchange small elements of content such as short sentences, individual images, or video links”.[1]
As with traditional blogging, microbloggers post about topics ranging from the simple, such as “what I’m doing right now,” to the thematic, such as “sports cars.”[citation needed] Commercial microblogs also exist, to promote websites, services and/or products, and to promote collaborationwithin an organization.
Some microblogging services offer features such as privacy settings, which allow users to control who can read their microblogs, or alternative ways of publishing entries besides the web-based interface. These may include text messaging, instant messaging, E-mail, or digital audio.
Some websites that are microblogging are Twitter(<—shameless plug to follow me), tumblr, sms messaging, and Google + and Facebook status are a form of microblogging.
Now while I knew this for the most part, I considered blogging from my cell phone microblogging (or miniblogging) as well. The screen on my android certainly is mini compared to my laptop!
Now I use the WordPress mobile app and I have to say I love it! No it doesn’t replace my WordPress on my computer, but it let me do microblogging (status updates) on the fly. I mean do I always have to blog a full size story, and do I always have to tweet everything (well yeah I kind of do, I have twitter fever) but still I like posting small things, thoughts of the moment, a cute or funny picture or video of something I find amusing!
So I’ve added 2 new categories, ‘Microblogging’ and ‘Status Updates’ and when I blog from my phone those are the categories I will use.
